⚠️ Remember: All pronouns need articles when used as subject/object!

⚠️ Golden Rule: The pronoun agrees with the THING owned, not the owner! If the car (el coche) belongs to María, we say "el suyo" (not "la suya") because coche is masculine.

The Formation Pattern

All possessive pronouns follow the same pattern - they always agree with the thing owned in both gender AND number:

💡 Key Pattern: Unlike possessive adjectives (mi, tu, su), possessive pronouns ALL change for both gender and number - there are no exceptions! They all end in -o/-a/-os/-as to match what is owned.

🔧 Three Main Usage Patterns

1. After "ser" (to be) - WITHOUT article

When stating ownership directly, don't use the article:

2. As subject/object - WITH article

When the pronoun is the subject or object, use the article:

El mío está aquí

3. Showing choice/contrast - WITH article

When comparing or contrasting, use the article:

¿Tu casa o la mía?

💡 "Suyo" ambiguity

Since "suyo" can mean his/hers/yours(formal)/theirs, we sometimes clarify:

• Es el suyo → Es el de él (it's his)
• Es la suya → Es la de ella (it's hers)
• Son los suyos → Son los de usted (they're yours - formal)
• Son las suyas → Son las de ellos (they're theirs)
