Gotchas / Common Mistakes
⚠️ Common Mistakes to Avoid
❌ Don't forget the accent marks!
❌ Wrong: que (that), quien (whoever), cual (which as relative)
✅ Right: ¿qué? (what?), ¿quién? (who?), ¿cuál? (which?)
Question words ALWAYS have accent marks in Spanish. Without accents, they have completely different meanings!
❌ "What is your name?" trap
❌ Wrong: ¿Qué es tu nombre?
✅ Right: ¿Cuál es tu nombre?(What is your name?)
Use ¿cuál? (not ¿qué?) before 'es' when asking for specific information like names, addresses, or phone numbers.
❌ Forgetting plural forms
❌ Wrong: ¿Quién son ellos?
✅ Right: ¿Quiénes son ellos?(Who are they?)
Remember: ¿quién? → ¿quiénes? (who) and ¿cuál? → ¿cuáles? (which) have plural forms when asking about multiple people or things.
❌ Mixing up qué vs cuál
❌ Wrong: ¿Cuál es amor?
✅ Right: ¿Qué es amor?(What is love?)
Use ¿qué? for definitions (What is X?) and ¿cuál? for choices or specific information (Which one? What's your X?).
