Speaking Exam Tips
π Role Play
- Listen carefully for the tense in the question
- The ! bullet point is unpredictable - prepare common responses
- Keep answers short but complete
- Use "usted" unless told otherwise

- Start with "En la foto veo..." or "Hay..."
- Describe people, actions, and setting
- The last 2 questions are about YOU, not the photo
- Use a range of tenses in your answers

- Prepare the first topic thoroughly - you choose it!
- Develop answers: opinion + reason + example
- Use connectives: ademΓ‘s, sin embargo, por lo tanto
- Include past, present, and future tenses
Writing Exam Tips
Foundation90 Word Task
- Cover ALL 4 bullet points
- Aim for 90-100 words (not much more)
- Use at least 2 different tenses
- Include opinions with reasons
- Check adjective endings
Higher150 Word Task
- Cover ALL 4 bullet points in detail
- Use 3+ tenses including subjunctive
- Include complex opinions and justify them
- Use connectives: aunque, sin embargo, por eso
- Vary sentence structures
π Translation Tips
- Read the whole passage first
- Identify the tense of each verb
- Watch for "false friends" (exciting β excitante)
- Check gender agreement
- Don't translate word-for-word
Listening Exam Tips
π― Use Your Reading Time
- You get 5 minutes reading time before the audio starts - use it!
- Read ALL questions and underline key words
- Predict what type of answer is needed (number, time, opinion)
- You can make notes at any time, including reading time
π’ Numbers & Prices
- Listen for "y" in numbers above 30 (treinta y cinco = 35)
- Watch similar sounds: sesenta (60) vs setenta (70)
- Prices can be said multiple ways: "tres euros cincuenta"
- Know quantifiers: medio (half), mΓ‘s de (more than)
β οΈ Watch for Traps
- Answers use different words than the questions - they test vocabulary range
- Listen to the END - speakers often change their mind
- "Pero" (but) and "sin embargo" (however) signal the real answer
- For opinions, listen for "lo bueno/malo" and "lo mejor/peor"
