Why proofreading helps

A sentence can get its meaning across and still read wrong to a Spanish speaker: el casa, me gusta los perros. Most of these slips are ones you already know the rule for. What catches them is the habit of reading your Spanish back, word by word, and asking a few questions:

  • Does each article and adjective match its noun (masculine or feminine, singular or plural)?
  • Does each verb match its subject, and is it in the right tense?
  • Is it ser or estar, por or para? Does a person after the verb need a?
  • Are the accents there, especially the ones that change the meaning (tú / tu, él / el, sí / si, habló / hablo)?

Each set here trains that habit, so it comes naturally when you write and translate. More sets are on the practice hub.
